Portable water heaters are a kind of expensive piece of camping equipment that you don't really need, but you can get if you just can't stand the thought of going without a hot shower or coffee nuts who don't think they can last without a well-heated cup. They're also often used by people who are going to be out in a cabin for awhile, as many don't have very good water heaters if they've got them at all. You should be aware that there are cheaper options such as solar showers (little bags of water you stick out in the sun) but this is probably the only way you're going to get similar quality and heat that you would have at home. You can also heat water on a stove, but again that's not usually ideal.

Coleman Portable Hot Water Heater - This is sort of the gold standard of portable water heaters. It's powered by propane, so you have to get a tank when you want to use it. One tank will usually run 40 gallons of water, and it heats it up in about 5 seconds, so it's very fast. It's got a little spout that is very useful for if you want to do dishes with it. You can buy a separate shower sprayer attachment. The downsides: you can only use it outside, not indoors (because of the gas). It's too big to take hiking (25 pounds), so it's better for car camping or on boat trips. It's also a little expensive - about $200. You can get it online here. |

Hot Tap Traveler Shower - This one is more designed for showers than for general uses. It's a portable water heating system that's made for camping, and it weighs a little less (10 pounds). It's still kind of expensive, at around $150, and you also aren't going to want this if you're looking to use hot water for anything other than bathing. You can get it online here. |
