Most camping utensils are sold separately from mess kits, so you'll need to get both if you want a full set. You really don't need much beyond a spork and a knife, and if you absolutely need to you can just bring some plastic utensils or some junkier ones from home if you're willing to lose them.

MSR Folding Camping Utensil Set - This isn't really the basic utensil set - they're cooking utensils, not eating ones. It's got a cooking spoon, a spatula, and a strainer. They fold up, so they take up a lot less space, and only weigh 8 ounces. It's good for pasta, vegetables, and all sorts of other meals. It costs around $11 and is available online here. |

GSI Outdoor Flatware Sets - This is a 4-person set that is better for a stationary campsite than for hiking (hikers will want something smaller). But for a family, this is great - it's pretty close to normal silverware, and it fits into an easy to carry little case. It costs around $10 and is available online here. |
