Folding stools are a useful piece of equipment to have when you're camping because they give you a way to sit down without having to carry much weight around, and they also let you get back up again quickly. That means they're useful for hiking (you can carry a stool with you and have a place to rest), fishing (you can move it close enough to the water to sit down while you're doing it), or hunting (a good, mobile place to sit while you're waiting around). They can also be good for a campsite where you've got a few people coming, as they won't take up much space in the car - some of the folding camping chairs are a little more bulky.

Slacker Folding Camping Stools - This is what you want if you're going hiking. It weighs only two pounds and collapses into a little bundle as seen in the picture - you just take it and put it in your backpack, and you've got an easy way to take breaks as you're hiking around. This probably beats your other options in terms of portability hands down - but it's not as great if you just want more chairs around your campsite. You can get it online here for about $11. |

Backpack Stool - Another good option for the hiker is a backpack stool. This is probably the least hassle, although it's not as comfortable. It's just a backpack with some bars on it so it can fold out and serve as a place to sit. The upside, though, is you don't have to worry about remembering to pack the stool, and it won't take up much more weight. It's about $30 and available online here. |

Byer of Maine Folding Camping Stool - If you just want more chairs around your tent or your campsite without taking up much space, this is more what you're looking for. It's not as portable as far as wandering around in the woods or on the trails with it, but it is more comfortable for most people than the ultra-lightweight ones used by hikers. It costs about $30 and is available online here. |

Folding Stool With Pouch - This is designed as hunting gear, but you can use it for any kind of outdoor activity. It's another "away from the camp" stool, most useful because you can put a small cooler or some food in the pouch and carry it around with you. That lets you sit in the same place for awhile without having to go back to camp for crucial stuff you might need - if you're going to watch a sunset or sit around a little bit away from where your stuff is, this will let you take enough stuff not to make return trips but won't force you to drag everything with you. It's about $22 and is available online here. |
